This Season’s Hottest Menu Item

Looking for help with creating delicious and innovative meals while consistently making a profit at a time like this when nothing is certain?

With fluctuating meat & produce prices, chronic skill shortages and unpredictable customer numbers, it’s never been more important to be able to cost meals accurately.

Royal Foods is well known in the food service industry for giving busy kitchens a skilled helping hand, by taking care of the time-consuming and labour intensive elements of gourmet meals.

For example, our fastest selling product this year is Downs Premium Meats’ Slow-Cooked Beef Cheeks in Red Wine Jus. Each cheek is weight ranged and trimmed, then cooked sous vide until luscious and fall apart tender. Gently heat and add your signature flair to the dish to wow your customers every time, in no time.

Although winter is officially behind us and we’re now into spring, demand for our beef cheeks and our famous lamb shanks is showing no sign of slowing down.

If your kitchen, labour and wastage costs aren’t at a sustainable level, talk to us about these and other value-added solutions in our range.

Downs Premium Meats is exclusive to Royal Foods.

New from Deluca’s

Listening to our customers and understanding that in times of stress people reach for comfort food, we’ve developed three traditional favourites for the Deluca’s ready meal range; Beef Cottage Pie, Macaroni & Cheese with Bacon and Spinach & Feta Quiche.

The Deluca’s Production Team prepares the meals in small batches, which ensures they always deliver delicious fresh meals of consistent quality, that taste home-cooked.

Beef Lasagne and Quiche Lorraine remain the top sellers, however sales of the vegetarian quiches and pasta meals are increasing, in line with the growing number of people choosing to eat less meat.

The Deluca’s range now includes 30 variants, offering family size and single serve options and all are suitable for home freezing.

For over a decade Deluca’s has been providing Australia with delicious locally made fresh meals, selling exclusively through independent supermarkets across the country. Deluca’s is proudly owned by Royal Foods.

Retail Online Ordering Upgrade

We’re delighted to announce that online ordering for retail independent customers is now available for customers nationally!

Our Retail Division’s online ordering platform has a fresh new look, with new features, tools, and a personalized dashboard to make placing and managing orders as easy as possible.

The number of customers choosing to place some, or all their orders online is continuing to rise. Much of the growth is coming from country customers who receive less frequent store visits from our sales teams than metro customers.

During the upgrade our research found that customers appreciate the flexibility of using an online ordering system for a variety of reasons, so our system includes options to create multiple order templates and favourites lists, as well as the ability to place an order on hold and return to complete it later.

Royal Foods distributes hundreds of quality local and international food brands. Jump online and take a look!

Vegie Magic for Flexitarians

An increasing number of Australians are making changes to their diet, consciously reducing their intake of meat, and choosing to eat plant-based meals more often. For some the motivation is to improve their health; for others it is about food sustainability and the environment.

Royal Foods is proud to be partnering with Australian owned Vegie Magic to bring their range of locally made meat free burger patties to life in Independent supermarkets across the country.

The Vegie Magic range caters to a wide range of dietary requirements, offering healthy vegan, vegetarian, meat free and plant-based products with gluten, dairy, egg, and soy free options.

Their fresh and nutritious appearance also makes them an ideal solution for service delis looking to liven up their dietary offer.

While independent retailers are very aware of the opportunities, selecting an exciting and balanced range and creating an attractive destination within the store to cater for this market can be difficult to execute successfully. Our Retail Sales Team’s experience in the lifestyle category enables them to provide solutions to manage issues such as shrinkage.

Update – 10,000km for Charity

A quick update on Reid Anderton’s attempt to raise $100,000 for charity and claim the Guinness World Record for the ‘fastest time to reach 10,000km cycling’. Unfortunately, a faulty fitness tracker and food preparation delays at his refueling breaks put Reid behind so early on, that achieving the world record was mentally and physically beyond his reach.

Despite this, he refused to give up on his commitment to ride 10,000km. Realising he could not achieve this on his own, he put out a call to the cycling community and the challenge became a team effort. Over 100 cyclists stepped up to the challenge (including our GM Malcolm van Basten). Collectively, they reached 10,000km on Sunday 19 July.

Although Reid did not claim a Guinness World Record this time, he has been an inspiration to many around him and has raised a considerable amount of money and awareness for Charity Build. It has been incredible to watch his determination and spirit.

A huge congratulations to Reid, his support team, the cyclists who clocked up many kilometres and everyone who donated. Royal Foods is proud to have been a part of Reid’s journey and to be a sponsor.

We encourage you to check out Charity Build Group and consider making a donation to support the lives of disadvantaged children.

10,000km for Charity

In 2013, Reid Anderton smashed the Guinness World Record to win the title of the ‘fastest time to cycle around Australia’. Cycling for 37 days, 1 hour and 18 minutes, Reid cycled a total distance of 14,178km. In July he is hoping to claim another Guinness World Record title, this time for the ‘fastest to reach 10,000km cycling’. To achieve this feat, Reid will aim to ride 450km per day for a little over 22 days. For perspective, the image of Australia maps out what 10,000km looks like! (Reid will however not be following this path, he will be cycling a mapped out loop in his local area).

Although holding these titles stand as great personal achievements for Reid, his main goal for the upcoming challenge is to raise fund $100,000 for Charity Build and Eagle Wings. Royal Foods is proud to be a Gold Sponsor for Reid’s ride. Our General Manager, Malcolm van Basten is also a passionate cyclist and will be taking his support for the cause one step further on 20 June by cycling alongside Reid for 7-8 hours (200km) of his 24-hour ‘warm up’ ride.

We wish Reid and Malcolm all the best for their warm up ride and congratulate Reid for taking on such a demanding challenge to raise funds for charity.

Helping Customers Survive After Lockdown Lifts

As COVID-19 restrictions ease, and hotels, restaurants, pubs and clubs prepare to reopen, our Food Solutions team are focused on helping executive chefs solve a range of challenges such as transitioning from buffet service to in-room dining and table service. Expert advice on menu changes that assist management of food and wage costs will be crucial.

Physical distancing will still be required in the workplace, so few establishments will be able to resume trading with a full complement of staff in the kitchen. To allow chefs the time to focus on the signatures dishes that keep their customers coming back, they’ll be relying more than ever on our high quality, value-added solutions.

Trending on freshly written winter menus are our One Chef pre-prepared meals such as slow-cooked lamb shanks, beef cheeks, duck confit, curries, and tagines. Popular too, are the no-fuss, handmade potato accompaniments that add gourmet flair to any meal.

While the future is uncertain, Royal Foods remains well-resourced to continue assisting all our food service customers across the country.

Celebrating $101,880 Raised for Charity

Thank you to our staff, customers and business partners for joining with us to raise a massive $101,880 this year, for the New Life Trust in Myanmar.

We have a passion for supporting the rescue and care of vulnerable children and through an annual charity dinner we help to raise the funds needed to continue rescuing and caring for orphaned and abandoned children in Myanmar.

It’s a popular event and this year over 300 supporters came along to participate in the fiercely contested auctions and enjoy outstanding food (of course!) and entertainment.

We’re proud that over the years the funds we’ve raised together have provided extra accommodation, vehicles, an education centre and a small farm that allows them to grow some of their own food.

Acquisition of G&K Fine Foods

In a strategic move to expand our national retail business, Royal Foods is very pleased to announce the acquisition of G&K Fine Foods, effective from 21 October 2019.

The acquisition broadens our range of premium brands and strengthens our ability to contribute to the growth of our independent retail customers across Australia.

G&K Fine Foods has been a respected national gourmet food distributor for over twenty years, so we’re also pleased to have been able to retain most of the team from G&K and transfer this wealth of added experience into our business.

In an environment where many direct-to-store distributors are reducing the size of their field teams, we’re doing the opposite! Our track record shows that regular instore presence of our experienced sales and merchandising teams leads to better ranging decisions, well planned and executed promotions and ultimately, great results for our customers.

Our field sales team operates across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland South Australia and ACT. We service Western Australia through a local partnership.

Our customer service teams are based onsite at our distribution facilities in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.
