10,000km for Charity

In 2013, Reid Anderton smashed the Guinness World Record to win the title of the ‘fastest time to cycle around Australia’. Cycling for 37 days, 1 hour and 18 minutes, Reid cycled a total distance of 14,178km. In July he is hoping to claim another Guinness World Record title, this time for the ‘fastest to reach 10,000km cycling’. To achieve this feat, Reid will aim to ride 450km per day for a little over 22 days. For perspective, the image of Australia maps out what 10,000km looks like! (Reid will however not be following this path, he will be cycling a mapped out loop in his local area).

Although holding these titles stand as great personal achievements for Reid, his main goal for the upcoming challenge is to raise fund $100,000 for Charity Build and Eagle Wings. Royal Foods is proud to be a Gold Sponsor for Reid’s ride. Our General Manager, Malcolm van Basten is also a passionate cyclist and will be taking his support for the cause one step further on 20 June by cycling alongside Reid for 7-8 hours (200km) of his 24-hour ‘warm up’ ride.

We wish Reid and Malcolm all the best for their warm up ride and congratulate Reid for taking on such a demanding challenge to raise funds for charity.

Helping Customers Survive After Lockdown Lifts

As COVID-19 restrictions ease, and hotels, restaurants, pubs and clubs prepare to reopen, our Food Solutions team are focused on helping executive chefs solve a range of challenges such as transitioning from buffet service to in-room dining and table service. Expert advice on menu changes that assist management of food and wage costs will be crucial.

Physical distancing will still be required in the workplace, so few establishments will be able to resume trading with a full complement of staff in the kitchen. To allow chefs the time to focus on the signatures dishes that keep their customers coming back, they’ll be relying more than ever on our high quality, value-added solutions.

Trending on freshly written winter menus are our One Chef pre-prepared meals such as slow-cooked lamb shanks, beef cheeks, duck confit, curries, and tagines. Popular too, are the no-fuss, handmade potato accompaniments that add gourmet flair to any meal.

While the future is uncertain, Royal Foods remains well-resourced to continue assisting all our food service customers across the country.

Celebrating $101,880 Raised for Charity

Thank you to our staff, customers and business partners for joining with us to raise a massive $101,880 this year, for the New Life Trust in Myanmar.

We have a passion for supporting the rescue and care of vulnerable children and through an annual charity dinner we help to raise the funds needed to continue rescuing and caring for orphaned and abandoned children in Myanmar.

It’s a popular event and this year over 300 supporters came along to participate in the fiercely contested auctions and enjoy outstanding food (of course!) and entertainment.

We’re proud that over the years the funds we’ve raised together have provided extra accommodation, vehicles, an education centre and a small farm that allows them to grow some of their own food.

Acquisition of G&K Fine Foods

In a strategic move to expand our national retail business, Royal Foods is very pleased to announce the acquisition of G&K Fine Foods, effective from 21 October 2019.

The acquisition broadens our range of premium brands and strengthens our ability to contribute to the growth of our independent retail customers across Australia.

G&K Fine Foods has been a respected national gourmet food distributor for over twenty years, so we’re also pleased to have been able to retain most of the team from G&K and transfer this wealth of added experience into our business.

In an environment where many direct-to-store distributors are reducing the size of their field teams, we’re doing the opposite! Our track record shows that regular instore presence of our experienced sales and merchandising teams leads to better ranging decisions, well planned and executed promotions and ultimately, great results for our customers.

Our field sales team operates across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland South Australia and ACT. We service Western Australia through a local partnership.

Our customer service teams are based onsite at our distribution facilities in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

Giving Back

Joining forces with The New Life Trust to help rescue abandoned & orphaned children is an important part of our giving back programme.

Royal Foods donated canapés and table gifts for their latest fundraising event, the Ladies Day Out, which was held in August. 160 ladies attended the Brisbane based event, which included market stalls, a fashion show and raffles.

Over $4500 was raised to support the Trust’s work in Myanmar and we’re delighted to have had the opportunity to be involved in helping a great cause.

Winter Menu Essentials

Rich, slow cooked meals are never far from everyone’s thoughts on chilly evenings, so what are the all-time favourites and what’s trending this winter?

Slow-cooked lamb shanks are Australia’s favourite winter warmer. Downs Premium Meats’ c lamb shanks are coated with a secret spice rub & slow-cooked to falling-off-the bone perfection. They are so easy to prepare and serve on a bed of mashed potato or celeriac with steamed greens and a rich jus.

Beef cheeks are right on trend this year and Downs Premium Meats have launched theirs just in time for winter. Rubbed with a spice mix and slow-cooked for hours in red wine until meltingly tender, they are easy for a busy kitchen to manage and a definite crowd-pleaser.

For lighter or more casual meals, the flesh of both the shanks and cheeks can easily be pulled & used as fillings for sliders & pies.

We save you hours of prepping, cooking and cleaning up – you can have these piping hots and on a plate in minutes!
